Springfield Health Disparities Project

 

 

The purpose of the Springfield Health Disparities Project is to: 

  • stimulate thinking about causes and solutions to disparities in health and health care
  • engage community people in taking action to improve community health
  • link people to established community health initiatives
  • advocate for changes in practices, systems, policy and allocation of resources to achieve health equity

The activities of the Springfield Health Disparities Project are: 

 

       "Conversations on Community Health"

       These are neighborhood dialogue groups to stimulate thinking causes of and solutions to health

       disparities, and to provide information on community health and advocacy initiatives.

 

       Health Equity Roundtable

       This is a monthly discussion to inform citizens about what is happening with community health 

       initiatives held on the 2nd Saturday of each month, 9:30-11AM, Tapestry Health, 365 Bay Street.

 

      "Unnatural Causes" viewings

      "Unnatural Causes" is an extensive and provocative documentary exploring environmental and

      social determinants of a wide range of specific health inequities in depth.

       Health Equity Forum

       The project organized a city-wide forum attended by 150 citizens and leaders of a wide range of

       of local community health initiatives in December to take stock of "Where Do We Stand? & Where

I have posted the summary of the discussion on leadership (planinng for the Building Leadership Among Community People of Color workshop for the HCFA Conference) in the SHDP folder. There is also a flyer for the Asthma Management and Education training seminar for nurses and respiratory therapists which will be in Woburn, MA in May. The registration form for this seminar is posted in the "Asthma" folder.

Their is a new flyer in the "Flyers" folder for Live Well Springfield's movie showing of "The Price of Sugar" - the question raised from the movie is "at what cost does food get to our table?"
